At the start of the game, you have the option of either placing your wager on your spot or the banker spot. After placing your bet, two cards will then be dealt to the player's spot and the dealer's spot. So, there will be two cards for each spot.

Now, if you are playing online baccarat, you will combine the value of these two cards and if the cards value is more than 10, you would have to drop the tens digit in order to get your real score. So, for instance, you get 2 and 4, your hand value is 6. Now, if you get 5 and 7, you get 12. You need to drop the tens digit, so your hand value or score is only 2. If the banker's cards total is higher in value, then you lose the game; otherwise you win the game.

If you lose, you can always choose to start the game and place another wager. If you win, however, most online casinos would collect a certain percentage from your winnings as their commission.
